Who is Clairière?

Clairière is a brand dedicated to selecting and selling toys that support a child’s awakening, curiosity and first discoveries.

Our approach rests on a simple conviction: play is a privileged setting in which to explore, experiment and gradually develop different skills.

Each toy is presented through the skills and experiences it can invite: fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, sensory exploration, language, creativity, reasoning, early mathematical ideas, or social interaction.

Our work draws on what is known about child development and learning through play. We still want to stay rigorous and transparent: a toy does not, on its own, guarantee that a skill will develop, but it can offer a favourable setting in which to explore it.

Why not a typical toy shop?

Unlike traditional toy shops, our aim is not to offer a multitude of products, but to select relevant toys and help parents understand why they matter.

Choosing a toy that fits a child can be hard given how many products are on the market. Our role is therefore to do the sorting and make the decision simpler.

A short selection of wooden toys on linen

How do you choose?

A selection designed for parents. Products are organised in particular by age, type of activity, the skills that can be explored, the level of difficulty, and whether play is free or accompanied.

  • the child’s age and stage of development;
  • the types of activities offered;
  • the skills that can be explored;
  • the level of difficulty;
  • the possibilities for free or accompanied play.

Each product page goes beyond a simple sales description. It explains:

What the child can explore
The skills and experiences the toy can invite, without turning them into a promise.
How to accompany them
Concrete cues for the parent: questions, encouragement, and suggestions matched to the child’s level.
What research actually allows us to say
Reliable, nuanced information. A toy is not a lesson, and does not on its own guarantee a skill.

Play, really — not a lesson?

The brand does not try to turn play into a lesson.

Our philosophy favours curiosity, experimentation and the pleasure of playing. The child is encouraged to handle, try, get it wrong, start again and gradually find their own solutions.

The parent’s role is valued too: rather than giving the answer at once, they can accompany the child with questions, encouragement and suggestions matched to their level.

What does a parent gain here?

We sort through the toys to help parents choose activities that fit their child, while giving them the keys to understand what the child can explore through play.

The brand thus sits at the crossing of three worlds:

Play

For pleasure and experimentation.

Child development

To understand its different stages and needs.

Research

To offer information that is reliable and nuanced.

Our aim is to build a brand parents can trust, for those who want to offer their children toys that carry meaning, without performance pressure and without excessive promises.

And tomorrow?

In time, Clairière is meant to become more than a toy shop: a reference for parents who want to better understand the place of play in their child’s development.

The shop will then be able to bring together:

  • a carefully chosen selection of toys;
  • personalised recommendations by the child’s age and needs;
  • practical guides for parents;
  • accessible educational content;
  • a library of resources grounded in scientific research.

Our philosophy in one sentence
